Blogging has taken a back seat these past few months, to me being constantly on the move. Hopefully that is a good thing.. being so busy you have not actually had time to sit and document the busyness. Quick recap… end of May, Austin graduated from high school, and since this backed up to Memorial Day, I got to spend a glorious week in Hilton Head. Mom and I took in Hairspray, the quintessential southern fair, the Buffton Farmer’s Market, and countless hours of soaking up the sun. It was a much needed break, and just the kickoff of my summer trip series.
The following weekend, Christopher and I flew to Jacksonville, FL, to meet mom and dad for a trip with dad’s work. Unfortunately I cannot report any extraordinary excursions or facts about this trip… except that my skin got a lot darker! … And I read Heaven Is for Real… and I think you probably should to.
Orlando was the next stop on Ashley’s summer tour… Christopher’s family and I spent the following weekend at Island Adventure riding roller coasters and seeing in 3D. Highlight of course was revisiting Harry Potter World. It’s exciting, even if it’s just for a day and crowded with millions of sweaty people, to try and imagine there really is a Hogwarts and Hogsmeade and you’re there.
June ended and July began with mom and I heading to south Florida, to Captiva Island. Soaked up more sun, took a sunset Fireworks cruise, ate more than enough seafood, and enjoyed just good ole mother daughter down time!
In between trips, I have seen the Backstreet Boys and New Kids on the Block in concert, been to a couple of weddings, a few Redbirds games, a few Memphis Rooftop parties. and just this last week a screening for the new Footloose movie, due in theaters, October 14.
The Footloose director is a Memphis native, who also directed such things as Hustle and Flow and Black Snake Moon. Lucky for us Memphians,Craig decided to host a screening for everyone in the area to get the chance to see what his new remake is going to look like. Let me be one of the first to tell you that its truly spectacular and really lives up to the original. I was skeptical since I was such a big fan of the 1980s version… but was thoroughly impressed by not only the dancing, but the humor and the script. I thought they did an excellent job using the classic elements of the original and merging it with a modern flair. In my opinion the original could not really be considered funny, but this one boasts one witty line after another and has you cracking up almost the whole time, while still holding true to the original plot line. The music does not disappoint either… the classic 80s favorites coupled with bands like 3 Six Mafia, make for quite an interesting musical menu. Basically, I am typing a paragraph to say what I could have in one sentence…. On October 14 go see Footloose. It will be worth it. Promise.
I have been home in Memphis for the last several weeks, and will be for the next several, so hopefully a better blogging consistency will set up shop on my end… until then….
